A tribute to the artist Paul Guiragossian

A key component of BEIRUT ART FAIR has been a commemorative retrospective marking the 25th anniversary of the passing of the great Lebanese painter Paul Guiragossian.

The retrospective dedicated to this important artist within BEIRUT ART FAIR has been created in close collaboration with the Paul Guiragossian Foundation. It was based on the latest monograph "Paul Guiragossian: Displacing Modernity", recently published by Silvana Editoriale and edited by Sam Bardaouil, Till Fellrath and Manuella Guiragossian. This monograph is dedicated to Guiragossian and brings together in one place an impressive number of photographic and journalistic documents, enabling a portrait of both the man and his work to be compiled in an almost scientific way. These archival pieces, which were enhanced by sound and video recordings, were presented to the public for the first time in the fair’s LEBANON MODERN! exhibition space.

The homage to Paul Guiragossian included a tribute to the collectors who recognized the genius of the painter and helped to secure his place in the history of art by acquiring his works with passion and zeal. It also showcased several anecdotal gems that recount the magical journeys made by some of the paintings as they toured the world before being discovered or rediscovered, years later.

BEIRUT ART FAIR was delighted to present this exhibition and reveald new or lesser-known facets of this great artist who, just like his work, never stops surprising us.
